Parent Power

Supporting University Access with The Brilliant Club and Parent Power

At Dixons Music Primary, we are proud to work with The Brilliant Club, an award-winning university access charity that partners with schools and universities across the UK. Their mission is to mobilise the PhD community to support students from less advantaged backgrounds, helping them access the country’s most competitive universities and succeed once they get there.

Under the guidance of Rahilia Ali, Community Organiser, families from Dixons Music Primary, Dixons McMillan Academy and Dixons Trinity Academy have come together to form a Parent Power group.

What is Parent Power?
The Parent Power model, originally developed by King’s College London and Citizens UK, brings together local parents and carers to have a direct impact on their school communities. Guided by a trained Community Organiser, the programme begins by gathering interest from parents and carers and holding one-to-one meetings to understand their priorities.

The group then participates in six facilitated meetings, where parents decide which activities will best support their children’s learning and opportunities. Activities can include tailored university visits for young people, training on student finance, and workshops on university access.

Through this partnership, Dixons Music Primary will support families in making informed decisions about higher education while empowering parents to play an active role in shaping opportunities for their children.
