Family Dining reflects the ethos of the Academy and is a very importaant part of our day. We expect our pupils to eat the healthy meal provided by our academy chef at lunchtime. All pupils from Year R to Year 2 are now entitled to free school meals.
Every day, there is a different meal accompanied with salad or vegetables, followed by a dessert or fresh fruit. Meat is Halaal and there is also a vegetarian option. The children sit in a small group with a member of staff and are expected to help set out the table and use good table manners. Dietary needs can be catered for as our chef cooks the meals fresh each morning.
The academy chef regularly seeks feedback from the pupils about school meals and often trials new recipes. Recent feedback from the children includes:
"School meals are yummy. I love the tacos because you can make them yourself." (Year 1 pupil)
"Simon [the chef] is very clever. He makes good food. I love the lasagne and garlic bread!" (Year R pupil)
"This is the best school dinner I have ever had!" (HMI Inspector)
Pupils may bring a packed lunch if agreed one term in advance with the Principal. This must be done in writing. This ensures that food is not wasted. Packed lunches must be healthy and therefore crisps, sweets, chocolate and fizzy drinks are not permitted.
